One hames-strap, 1" wide, 1-6" long, for fastening the branches of the hames together at the top--one buckle and two loops for ditto--one collar-strap, lj" wide, l'-2" long; one buckle and one loop for ditto; the collar-strap is passed round the hames-strap, and buckled to the billet attached to the pommel of the saddle, to keep the collar in place. 83. Traces There are two traces to each horse, each of which consist of the leather trace, l " wide PLTgEiXX' and " thick, made of three layers, stitched in two rows near the edges, and fastened by a loop at the front end, to the trace-hook loop, and at the rear end by another loop to the trace-chain; the traces pass through the two outer loops of the double loop-rings in the trace-tugs--one tracehook for attaching the lead-horse's trace--and one tracechain, 10" long, formed by five links of iron, $" diameter, and a loop-ring, to which the leather trace is fastened. The length of the wheel-horse trace, from the hames to the hook on the splinter-bar, is 7'; the length of the leading-horse trace, from the hames to the trace-hook of the wheel-horse trace, is 9'-6." 84. Loin-Straps.--The loin-straps are l " wide and 3-8" long, to the ends of which are buckled PLFTgEiXX' two trace-bearers, 1J" wide, 7" long, with two buckles and two standing-loops; a layer, 6" long, is sewed under the middle of the loin-strap, leaving an opening of 2," through which the back-strap of the crupper passes. 85.
